David Rovics - 1 July 2005

David Rovics is a troubadour whose name deserves to be mentioned alongside the very best: Christy Moore or Dick Gaughan. He is constantly on the road between large concert halls, small intimate gigs and mass popular demonstrations, where his powerful emotional songs provoke unity and positive action.

We think you will agree that these two songs he chose to perform in Harlow will one day be of lasting historical importance.

If only the BBC had been bold enough to play this song during their recent hour-long radio broadcast about the sweeping political changes Hugo Chavez is bringing about in Venezuela.

This song about the St. Patrick's Batallion's vain-glorious attempt to defend the people of Mexico from the invading US Army, will undoubtedly go down in history alongside Christy Moore's Quinta Brigarda, and their struggle against Franco.
